Blythewood

Secret Invasion

Blythewood is identified as the post where Captain Josh Moody is stationed as a state trooper. Though the story does not dwell on the town’s geography, it gives Blythewood a recurring role in Josh’s choices: it is the place his work requires him to return to, away from Denise Baddington and the crisis unfolding around Sweetboro.

The Duty Station

After the battle, Josh remains in Sweetboro even after the other state troopers have gone home. He knows he will eventually have to return to his post in Blythewood, but his growing attachment to Denise keeps him there. His stay is not presented as a change of assignment; Blythewood remains the professional obligation waiting for him.

A Return Delayed

That obligation becomes immediate when Josh’s superiors order him back. He packs, settles his motel account, and goes to Sweetboro Medical Center to see Denise before leaving. His departure is therefore both practical and personal: he is answering a direct order while taking time to be with the woman he has grown close to, enjoying her conversation and company as well as their mutual attraction.

Work and the Expanding Crisis

Josh’s return is interrupted when Ron Tully asks whether he will join the team responding to the creature attacks. Josh says he has not gotten far and can turn around, though he still needs to drive to Blythewood sometime that day. The exchange makes the town the point of return against which the emergency and Josh’s attachment are measured: his post calls him away, while the growing response offers a reason to stay. The evidence establishes the choice being placed before him, not its eventual resolution.
